Helena Kennedy's Sketchbook
Here are just a few of my initial sketches for the characters, events and places in the books.
My first Trug picture - taller and with a tail!
A friend told me that this picture made her feel 'at home' with Mr. Trug, who as yet had no name.
Hogboon head no. 1
No.2
Long-nosed Hogboon emerges, but without his pig's snout.
Nab the Hogboon, fully fledged in his overcoat, and no doubt ready to tell a tall tale or two!

I also sketch a lot whilst on my travels. These are a selection of sketches done during my rather wet holiday in the Scottish Highlands and the Orkney Islands in August 2004!

Home for a week - the lovely fisherman's cottage on the seafront at Brora, Sutherland.
Dunrobin Castle, near Golspie, Sutherland.
The long, wet, miserable wait in a queue of cars to board the Pentalina B, for the passage to Orkney from Gills Bay.
Looking out to the Brough of Birsay where the lighthouse beams its message into the North Sea.
Waves breaking as night sets in, Birsay, Orkney.
The remains of Carn Liath, an iron age broch in Sutherland.
Kirbuster Farm, Orkney, where there is still a traditional peat fire burning.
Skara Brae, 5000 year old Neolithic village, Orkney.
Harbour at Portmahomack, Black Isle, Scotland.
St. Peter's Kirk, Skaill Bay, Orkney.

I am available to undertake landscape work by commission which makes an excellent and unique gift for a special occasion.

I also paint large scale using acrylic on canvas.I have mostly painted these for my own interest and these are mainly of ancient sites around Britain, although I have painted in a variety of styles, from landscape to psychedelic style poster art! Again, though, I am open to suggestions or requests.
